You Don’t Have to Choose Based Only on What Suits You

When choosing clothes or jewelry, have you ever found yourself wondering,

“Does this really suit me?”
“Am I too old for this?”

I have, too.

Of course, what suits you matters.
So do age, occasion, and context.

I don’t think it means ignoring all of that and simply saying,

“I like it, so that’s all that matters.”

But at the same time,

whether it suits you,
how others might see you,
whether it feels safe or conventional—

choosing based only on those things can feel a little limiting.

“I actually like this one more,
but maybe it’s too bold.”

“I think it’s cute,
but maybe it’s not right for my age anymore.”

Little by little, we can start removing the things that genuinely catch our eye from our own list of possibilities.

And I feel that happens more often as we get older.

So rather than always putting “what I like” above everything else,

I think it is worth first noticing what it was that drew you in.

And then asking yourself how you might make it work for who you are now.

That feels like the right balance to me.

If the jewelry has a little more presence,
keep the clothes simple.

If the piece feels sweet or playful,
pair it with something that keeps the overall look from becoming too soft.

Instead of trying to fit everything into someone else’s idea of what is “right,”
find a balance that feels like your own.

That is part of what we mean at HAPPY CAKE JEWELS when we talk about choosing for yourself.

What suits you matters.
Other people’s opinions can be helpful, too.

But in the end,
I want the final choice to be mine.

If jewelry can become one small way to enjoy making choices like that,
I would be very happy.
